About
This performance is a first greeting to the world and an exploration of human connection through sound. Centered on Wellspring, the program brings together gayageum, voice, and ensemble through a combination of original compositions and improvisation.
Drawing on diverse musical languages DoYeon absorbed throughout her life, the music reflects an ongoing search for connection. The performance invites shared moments of energy, emotion, and sincere encounter with the audience.
DoYeon Kim is a forward-thinking gayageum performer, composer, and improvisor forging a distinctive contemporary musical vision. Listening to her improvisational music and band performances, it becomes clear that she has the ability to express the sounds she hears—the musical language she has absorbed throughout her life—in her own unique voice. She is an artist with the ability to articulate these sounds with clarity, and can confidently be regarded as an innovative artist.
“I felt tired of talking about me, me, me all the time. The audience doesn’t come to listen to my diary. Everyone has their own hurt and their own story. I need to figure out why I was born in this time, in this place, and why I chose music. There must be a reason and a way I can use it to serve the world.”
